After 6…Qa5 the position resolves into a tense centre: the central pawns still face each other, and the timing and manner of the coming exchange shapes the whole middlegame, with the b-file half-open for White and doubled white pawns on the c-file.

Hold the e5 wedge and attack with f4-f5 space gains, while meeting Black's ...c5/...f6 counterstrikes with precise central play.

Attack the base of the chain with ...c5 and ...f6, exploit the light squares with ...Qb6/...Qa5 hits, and free the c8-bishop with ...b6/...Ba6 timing.

- 1White plays down the b-file — with no White pawn there, a rook lift and pawn lever turn this file into direct pressure on b7.
- 2The central tension is the key decision: releasing it too early hands the opponent a free tempo and a target, so keep it until a capture wins a file, a diagonal or a clear structural edge.

How to Play Against the Winawer, ...Qa5 System
- Target the isolated white a-pawn and White's doubled c-pawns. Blockade the weak pawn on its square, pile pieces against it, and steer toward an endgame where it simply cannot be defended.
- As White, resolve the central tension on your terms: force the exchange that gives you the better structure rather than letting the opponent choose the moment.

These openings arrive at the very same board position by a different move order — a transposition. Knowing them lets you steer between systems and recognise when your opponent has walked into familiar territory.
